Andy Keyford, a former pupil at George Ward School, Melksham appeared on the BBC programme Food Police.
Mr Keyford, who works in the food safety team at West Wiltshire District Council, was filmed by a BBC camera crew over several weeks.
He said: "The programme was a good opportunity to raise awareness of the range of things that food safety officers deal with."
Mr Keyford chose to become an environmental health officer after a trade fair at George Ward when he was a pupil. He then did a four-year degree at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.
The council's food safety team has dealt with about 160 complaints in the past year, covering foreign objects found in food, out-of-date foods and contaminated food.
Food Police focuses on a different aspect of food health and safety in half hour weekly programmes.
