A Melksham man who threatened someone with a gun on Christmas Day has been warned he could face a jail term.

Michael Robins admitted possessing a firearm with intent that Sean Eattell would believe unlawful violence would be used against him.

The 35-year-old had a .22 air rifle with him when he committed the offence in the town on December 25.

Police were called to an address in Queensway at about 11pm on Christmas Day following reports that a man had a gun.

Officers were concerned for the safety of a 12-year-old girl and a woman who were in the house but they were allowed to leave about four hours later.

During a brief hearing at Swindon Crown Court Robins, of Queensway, Melksham, admitted the charge of possessing a firearm with intent.

The case was adjourned so a pre-sentence report could be prepared on him and Robins was released on bail to live in Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

Judge Tom Longbotham said: "You have pleaded guilty to a serious charge. The court is going to readmit you to bail pending a pre-sentence report being prepared.

"Clearly you must understand that all sentencing options will be open to the judge who sentences you."
