Ref. 14860A 77-YEAR-OLD swimmer is hoping to go the extra mile to help raise cash for cancer sufferers. Keith Green, of Robin Close, Warminster is to swim 65 lengths of the Kingdown swimming pool in Warminster for MacMillan Cancer Relief.
The retired army sub-aqua diver is aiming to get more than £100 sponsorship before the national Butlins Swimathon on Sunday.
He said: "We have worked out that 65 lengths of the Kingdown pool is equal to a mile.
"I managed to swim a mile about 15 years ago and I haven't swam that far since but I have kept myself reasonably fit. It is a national event run by Butlins with many people taking part across the country."
Pensioner Mr Green divides his time between working as a part-time presenter on WCR community radio and being an active member of the British Legion.
The event starts at 2pm and Mr Green plans to complete the mile-long swim in under an hour.
Anyone wishing to pledge money to the sponsored swimathon can contact Mr Green on (01985) 214529.
