SWINDON Council wants to hear from anyone who attended a one-day sale at the De Vere Hotel last weekend, following complaints about goods bought there.

Trading Standards officers issued leaflet to hundreds of people queuing outside the Hotel in Shaw Ridge for the chance to buy top-brand goods at knockdown prices.

Those complaining about the sale, which took place on Sunday, acknowledge they had been warned about the risks before purchasing.

Robert Taylour, public protection group leader, said: "Most consumers who have complained felt that they had been duped into paying over the odds for their purchases.

"Goods were sold in lots for £400 but in fact the items could have been purchased for much less from reputable shops in Swindon. Some consumers felt misled about what items would actually be included in the lots."

Mr Taylour urged everyone at the sale to contact him whether they bought something or not.

"We need as much information as possible about what happened at the sale in order to assess whether any criminal offences were committed."

Anyone who attended the sale can contact Swindon Trading Standards on 01793 525387 or via email at tstandards@ Swindon.gov.uk
