Ref. 29576-18KIT and Terry Hayward, who met when they were teenagers, are today celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
Their family has organised top-secret celebrations to mark the day and all the couple have been told is to dress up and be ready by 10.30am.
The couple, who live Burnham Road, Park North, moved to Swindon in 1958 when Terry got a job as an engineer at Vickers Armstrong the plane manufacturing company.
Terry, 71, said: "We were part of the London overspill.
"After we were married we were looking for somewhere to live and were on the the waiting list for a house in London.
"The job came with the house in Swindon."
They have two daughters Elaine and Kay and three grandchildren.
Kit, 73, who worked at the town centre branch of Sainsburys for 25 years, says bringing up her children has brought her immense joy.
"I think a lot of my children and they think a lot of us," she said.
"Now they have grown up and I have retired I keep myself busy with knitting and meeting up friends."
Terry loves gardening in his spare time.
They both think the secret to a successful marriage is a bit of give a take.
"The man has got to be a little deaf," Terry joked.
"You have to learn to forgive and forget. We are individuals and we need our space. I think that's important."
