WOOTTON Bassett staged a second-half revival to edge out Swindon 12-10 in a tense derby friendly at Greenbridge Road.
On a mudbath of a pitch, Bassett chose to play with the wind hoping to gain a first-half advantage.
However, it was Swindon who used their heavier pack to play a close driving game enabling them to retain possession.
This eventually told and an overlap down the right wing enabled prop Steve Davis to crash over after a handling movement.
The conversion into the wind was missed and Bassett looked to use the elements.
They eventually forced a kickable penalty in front of the posts, which was pulled wide by the gusts.
Swindon continued to dominate possession and territory and Bassett's defence let in a second try midway through the half when blindside winger Robin Haxton dived over in the corner.
The conversion again failed and Bassett finally managed to mount some attacks of their own.
Just before the break, scrum-half Sam Fulling managed to snipe over after a crunching tackle from flanker Paul Hine, with the conversion being crucially slotted by Dave Parker.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first with Bassett employing the tight driving game and a strong run from No 8 Matt McKee enabled winger Alex Penny to chase a kick through and outpace the defence to touch down the decisive score.
