SECONDARY schools in west Wiltshire are to share facilities, ideas and staff in the first initiative of its kind in the UK.
The West Wiltshire Federation will see eight schools join forces to develop a common agenda for education improvement.
The aim of the federation, given the go-ahead by Government education chiefs this week, will be to use successful practices and experiences in one school to help develop similar areas in others.
With eight specialist schools in west Wiltshire teachers are hoping each individual school will bring something unique to the federation.
Sheelagh Brown, headteacher at Kingdown School, Warmin-ster, a sports college, said: "We are delighted that the Government has backed this initiative and I am very excited about a federation of high performing secondary schools to support each other and come up with ground-breaking ideas."
The first meeting of headteachers involved in the West Wiltshire Federation of Schools will be held on Monday evening.
Schools taking part include: technology centres the George Ward School and St Augustine's, language centres The John Bentley School and The Clarendon, performing arts colleges Matravers School and St Laurence, and science college John of Gaunt.
