AMESBURY Town got the dismal 6-0 defeat to Fawley out of their system on Saturday with a 2-1 home win over Petersfield Town on Saturday.
They almost took the lead when Sanders, the visiting goalkeeper, sliced a clearance and Cunningham brought the ball down but it bounced away just as he was about to shoot. After 23 minutes, Cunningham was found by Keith Nicholls but the striker's shot was blocked by a defender's leg. Cunningham was denied by a good Sanders save before the break.
Petersfield's Glazier was booked for dissent as he walked off at half-time, and a second such offence saw him dismissed on 64 minutes.
Before that red card, Brett Wilkes, Steve Reeves and Cunningham had all gone close, and it was Wilkes who broke the deadlock four minutes later. From Gareth Horner's cross, his low shot found the corner of the net. Jason Cameron conceded a controversial penalty, with the Blues complaining that the offence was outside the box. Bristow's kick was saved by Andy Jackson but Bishop scored from the loose ball.
Amesbury were not to be outdone and Keith Nicholls hammered in Cunningham's goalbound shot to give them all three points after 72 minutes.
Hampshire League leaders V.T. FC come to the Recreation Ground on Saturday. They have won their last 13 league games, and Town lost 4-1 there in January.
