Picture courtesy of 2004 Universal StudiosSWINDON pop princess Billie Piper is set to make her first appearance on the silver screen next month alongside heart-throb Orlando Bloom.
Billie, 21, makes a cameo appearance in the film The Calcium Kid, directed by Alex de Rakoff.
It tells the story of Jimmy 'The Calcium Kid' Connelly, a milkman and amateur boxer who, in a bizarre twist of events, is propelled onto the world stage to fight the world champion.
Jimmy is played by Lord Of The Rings and Pirates Of The Caribbean star Bloom.
Billie plays Angel, a dolly bird who is the object of Jimmy's desires.
"I started to read Angel and thought she was a very pure and innocent character and I enjoyed taking that on," said Billie.
The film will be her first big screen role. She shot to fame aged 15 as a pop singer with her number one hit Because We Want To becoming the youngest female solo artist to debut at number one in the UK chart.
But she is no stranger to the small screen, having appeared with actor James Nesbitt in an adaptation of Chaucer's A Miller's Tale last year and starred in the recent BBC2 drama Bella And The Boys.
Reflecting on her new film role, she said that it was important to "gel with the people that you're going to be working with.
"Suddenly they are in your dreams every night because they just enter your life and this little bubble is almost like Big Brother.
"All these people congregate and do this thing for six weeks or however long it may be and you've got to get on with them because it makes everybody's jobs and lives so much easier."
Orlando Bloom is one of Britain's hottest young stars. He found fame, and a huge female following, playing elf archer Legolas in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
And last year he cut a dash as a swashbuckling seaman alongside Johnny Depp in Pirates Of The Caribbean.
Filmed in South London, The Calcium Kid also stars comedians Omid Djalili and Ronni Acona.
Billie is also working on a second film, entitled You Don't Have To Say You Love Me which stars Dougray Scott, Emilia Fox and Jimi Mistry.
The Calcium Kid will be released nationwide on Friday, April 30.
