UNIVERSITY CAMPUS FEATURE: COUNCIL leader Mike Bawden (Con, Old Town and Lawn) said: "I am delighted Mr Watkins has cleared up the position of the RDA and has pledged the organisation's full support for the University of Bath's major campus project in Swindon.
The university is the most important development for Swindon since Brunel brought the railway works here."
NORTH Swindon MP Michael Wills said: "We are approaching a very important time for the university, but before any decision can be taken on the site we will need to know whether a very large sum of money is going to be available from central Government for this project.
It is not at all certain whether Swindon will be able to secure this, but our best chance is if everybody involved local politicians, the RDA as well as the university can all find sufficient common ground to put in a united bid. There is no point arguing about the site until we have secured the money."
SOUTH Swindon MP Julia Drown said: "I am really pleased we have the University of Bath at Oakfield Campus and I am keen to see a bigger presence in the town centre.
I would like there to be a proper discussion about alternative sites so that people can have a serious input into the consequences of any development."
