With reference to your recent articles relating to residents parking, a number of years ago I complained to both the local council and the police about cars being parked in the back roads preventing residents from reaching their garages or hard standing at the rear of their properties.
The Evening Advertiser also printed my letters on the subject. No one was interested and nothing was done. I was forced to stop using my garage because I could never be sure I could get the car out when it was needed, especially when going to work at 6am. It was a matter of leaving my car out on the road or possibly not having a job to go to by the end of the week. I haven't used my garage for years and it is now a workshop. There must be hundreds of properties within each residents parking zone where garages or hard standings are not used for the same reason. If the local council or the police had accepted responsibility a few years ago the situation would be not be as critical as it is now.
Since most parking zones in the central and Old Town areas cover terraced houses, it stands to reason that each property should be limited to one permit because there's only room to park one car outside each property. I cannot see why there is a cut-off period from 6pm or 8pm until 8am when overnight parking is the real problem. The residents parking should apply for 24 hours a day, every day.
