STANTON St Quintin mother Sandi Christie is calling for seatbelts on buses on the school run to Malmesbury after her two sons narrowly escaped injury in a crash on Friday.
The 30-seater number 92 Andy Bus service from Cirencester, half-full with schoolchildren, collided with a lorry on a bend on the Grittleton road two miles outside Stanton St Quintin at about 4.15pm.
No passengers were hurt but the bus driver was left with cuts and bruises.
Mrs Christie, who had to pick her shocked children up from the scene, wants something done to protect them.
She said: "It was lucky no one was hurt. This is the third accident on that bus in the last few years. If they had seatbelts they would be much safer."
Her son Ben, 18, who is studying A-levels at Malmesbury School, described how he lurched forward when the bus hit the oncoming lorry.
He said: "The bus was going quite fast and suddenly it started braking hard and I had to stop myself going into the front seat. Then I saw the lorry coming towards us and I hoped it wasn't going to hit us but it did.
"It is lucky the lorry did not hit us head on it hit the right side. I thought all the windows were going to smash.
"After the accident I felt in shock. The driver asked if we were OK. There were some people crying."
Martina Zimmermann-Twaites, 36, of Lowden, Chippenham, whose daughter Alison, 16, was on the bus, was angry the bus company had not called to see if her daughter was OK.
She said: "Alison was extremely upset and worried after the crash."
No action is being taken pending further investigation.
