SCREWFIX DIVISION ONE: CALNE'S young side produced a performance full of resolve to earn a point against Cadbury on Tuesday night.
Kelvin Highmore's team, who needed to bounce back from their weekend defeat at Shrewton, managed to restore some pride.
But they had to work hard to grind out a point against a lively Cadbury outfit who belied their lowly status.
In fact Cadbury could have won the game easily had they possessed a real cutting edge up front.
Highmore said: "With the problems we had, I was pleased with the point .
"Dave Hunt, Gary Banks, James Lye and Robbie Lardner were all injured and Kevin Banks took a fitness and played but didn't look to be at full capacity.
"It was Ben Moore's first start since New Year's Day as well so the odds were stacked against us.
"We had the better of the first half and should have gone in front, but in the second half they just edged it.
"A draw was a fair result because not a lot was created at either end and I was pleased with the point."
The hosts started well and, on two minutes, a spell of sustained pressure from a Glenn Armstrong corner kick saw his second effort blocked on the line as he progressed into the danger area.
The next piece of real action did not occur until early in the second half when Cadbury Heath began to take a grip and three Dave Scott corner kicks were frantically cleared by Calne's over-worked defence.
The Bristolians continued to stretch the Calne rearguard but found Chris Jones and Jake Jefferies in determined mood.
It took until the 77th minute for a strong Nick Dyer run to give the visitors a clear sight of goal but his effort flew wide of the post.
Then on 80 minutes Dyer sent in a teasing cross from the left and Gary Beale headed wide from a great central position.
Calne then almost stole the points at the end when a centre from Graham Ford was only headed out as far as Kevin Banks and he instinctively lashed a shot just wide.
Calne, who completed the signing of Colerne's Charlie Spirrell last week, are without a fixture this weekend.
