GAZETTE & HERALD: NEIGHBOURS are objecting to plans to build six homes on a busy stretch of London Road, Calne.
Plans have been put forward to demolish two bungalows and replace them with the new homes. Residents had objected to earlier plans for eight houses on the site and are now organising a petition against the new plans.
Road safety officers from Wiltshire County Council are to visit the site before the plans go before North Wiltshire District Council development control committee on March 31.
Town councillor Mercy Baggs is worried about the impact of the proposed homes on the busy road.
The site is close to Holy Trinity and John Bentley schools and near an island used by children to cross the road.
Coun Baggs, who is trying to have the island turned into a pelican crossing, said: "The development will have an impact on the traffic on a very busy road. It is totally unnecessary."
District councillor John Ireland said there were already three accesses onto the road in the area. He fears a fourth access, as proposed in the plans, would further exasperate traffic problems.
