GAZETTE & HERALD: A disabled access group wants to hear from buggy and wheelchair users who would like a safe place to keep their equipment when they catch the bus.
Calne Access For All Group is assessing the need for a secure place to leave disabled apparatus when people in The Strand catch the bus to Chippenham and Swindon.
Group secretary Sue Boddington said that some people were able to get onto the bus without their wheelchairs or buggies but they had nowhere safe to leave them behind in Calne.
"A lot of people can't get their buggies on the bus or do not need them," she said.
"They have been leaving the buggies in the library but we would like to consider providing a safe area where the buggies and equipment can be shut in and left."
Mrs Boddington said there were many implications to consider such as staffing the secure area and where it would be.
Before the group starts investigating the possibilities, members would like to know whether there is a demand.
"The group is willing to lobby for this facility, " said Mrs Boddington.
"But we will only do so if we are convinced that it is something the majority of disabled residents of Calne feel to be necessary and would use on a regular basis."
Anyone interested should contact Mrs Boddington on (01249) 813128 or write to Calne Access For All Group, Calne Library, The Strand, Calne, Wiltshire, SN11 0JU.
