A COUNTRYSIDE walk has been arranged to honour Saint George and raise money for a local church.
The Walk for Saint George takes place on the afternoon of April 25 two days after St George's day and those taking part can walk, ride their mountain bikes or hitch a ride in a 4x4 vehicle. Participants can choose the route they go, from one mile up to four miles.
The event has been organised by the Friends of Bishops Cannings Church and costs £2 for adults, £1 for under 16s and no charge for dogs provided they are on a lead. The walk starts from the village hall. Cream teas and refreshments will be served from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at the hall.
A dragon hunt has been arranged for children and there will be prizes for successful dragon hunters.
Elizabeth Frearson, of the Friends, said: "The route crosses Bishops Cannings Down and Wansdyke and takes in stunning views across the surrounding, historically rich English countryside.
"Along the way will be dragons who divulge who Saint George really was and what the dragon legend means.
"In one round trip of just four miles the dragons unearth 20 fascinating facts from 3500 BC to the present day."
