POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was beaten to the ground by an attacker with a folded up umbrella in broad daylight in Marlborough shopping centre on Saturday.
Police have not identified the victim, who it's believed runs a kebab takeaway in the town.
He was walking along the High Street in the vicinity of the old post office, now ASK restaurant, at about 3.15pm on Saturday when he was assaulted. He was struck repeatedly with the umbrella and knocked to the ground, receiving bruising and swelling, although he did not require medical attention.
Police are seeking witnesses to the attack. A man was arrested, but he has since been released.
Acting Sergeant Mark Freeman said: "We know there were some witnesses to what took place because they helped the injured party to his feet and then left the scene."
Anyone who saw the incident, which is being regarded by police as an assault occasioning actual bodily harm, is asked to contact Sgt Freeman at Marlborough police station on (01672 512311.
