JEFF ODY is not alone in his concern about the increasing volume of commuter and through traffic using Devizes' arterial roads, and the imminent dislocation likely to occur when Wessex Water starts laying new water mains to cater for new housing developments predominantly adjacent to London Road.
At the recent Kennet Community Area Planning Partnership meeting (LSP) I asked a county council officer whether the county council had any medium or long-term plans to mitigate this growing traffic problem.
He replied that the improvements to the A350 and initiatives to increase walking and cycling would reduce the problem.
I am not convinced and that is why I have asked for this topic to be discussed at the town council.
The failure of the county council to carry out new traffic surveys in Devizes means that objective evidence, about the scale of the traffic problem, is not available.
I think the Local Strategic Partnership is the appropriate community group to take this matter forward and I would urge all interested parties to work with the Local Strategic Partnership so that efforts to solve this problem can be co-ordinated and have a greater impact.
