GAZETTE & HERALD: LACOCK villagers have been left shocked and mystified after widow Margaret Gough was found dead at her home in the High Street on Sunday.
Mrs Gough's body was discovered at lunchtime after a neighbour phoned the police complaining about the smell of gas.
Police from Corsham gained entry to the house and found the 58-year-old lying dead in the kitchen.
The cause of her death is still being investigated, but police say they are not treating it as suspicious.
One villager who knew Mrs Gough told of her shock at her death.
"She was a nice lady, friendly and I knew her to talk to because we used to chat when we saw each other out walking her dogs," she said.
"She kept herself to herself but was always pleasant in a reserved way.
"I think she moved to the village some years ago after marrying her husband Douggie, who grew up here," the neighbour continued.
"She was absolutely heartbroken when he died two years ago. She used to visit his grave in the village every day and spoke a lot about how they had met.
"She was also a huge Cliff Richard fan and she went to all his concerts.
"She even invited me into her house one day and showed me a room that was like a shrine to him.
"What has happened is very, very sad."
