CORSHAM bowed out of the Bath Combination Cup following a disjointed game against Trowbridge.
Appalling weather conditions led to a scrappy encounter with no real consistent phases of play coming from either side.
With the wind at their backs in the first half Trowbridge started the game the better.
They pushed Corsham back and led 8-0 at half-time following an unconverted try and a penalty.
Corsham had a mixed side out because they were without a few key players, including skipper Tim Russell, but those who came into the fold acquitted themselves well.
After the half-time interval Corsham pinned back Trowbridge in the their own half and enjoyed 15 minutes of sustained pressure.
Their effort paid off when from a Corsham line-out Trowbridge tapped down but their scrum-half missed the bounce and Ian McNerlin was quick to pick up and burst through two tackles to go over. Unfortunately for Corsham the try was unconverted.
Corsham continued to look for the vital score but it was Trowbridge who came back and scored a breakaway try.
The home side pinned their opponents back for the last 15 minutes as they hunted a lifeline but it was not to be.
Despite the defeat Corsham took positives from the game. Chris Jones, 17, made his debut for first team and despite the difficult conditions his service to the fly-half was exceptional.
