I absolutely understand Mr Ody's frustration regarding the congestion on London Road (letters, March 18).
I must travel through Devizes from Bath Road to London Road on a Monday morning at around 8.30am.
Unfortunately this trip and its timing is unavoidable. At present it takes me an average of 40 minutes to get from Caen Hill to Hopton Industrial Estate which is only about three miles in distance.
Once this 31 weeks of pipe-laying begins I can imagine that this journey will take twice as long.
And how useless is the advice that we, "may wish to use an alternative route"!
There is no other route, unless we travel over Jump Farm another traffic-congested (and residential) area.
This has been a bone of contention for many years and I am sure it will continue to be so for many more.
I understand that there is no easy or cheap solution but at this rate we will have more and more houses (but no more schools, no hospital) and no alternative way of crossing town other than the single route. It quite clearly spells disaster.
