A CLAMP down on unpaid fines means defaulters could end up in prison. Police and bailiffs are working together as part of Operation Payback, a national initiative to recover unpaid court fines and compensation.
More than £1.2m in fines remain unpaid in Wiltshire and those who haven't paid up could face serious consequences.
Fines, including on the spot penalties such as speeding fines, can be deducted from wages and certain benefits and persistent offenders could be arrested and even imprisoned.
The campaign was launched this week by Courts Minister Christopher Leslie.
People have been given a chance to pay up before action is taken and a nationwide advertising campaign has warned time is limited.
Anyone who owes fines, can make payments to the Central Payments Office, PO Box 356, Swindon, SN1 2TL or by calling (01793) 699872/699876/699877.
