TROWBRIDGE Town reached their second successive Wiltshire Senior Cup final on Wednesday night with a convincing victory over their Hellenic Premier League opponents.
Trowbridge went into the match as the underdogs, sitting two divisions lower than Pewsey in the non-league pyramid, but by the end of the 90 minutes it was the Hellenic League side who were made to look like the minnows.
Trowbridge won their battles in every position on the pitch, with wingers Gavin Eyre and Waleed Bakali enjoying a field day against a defence that would have been more suited to a game of musical statues.
Pewsey are languishing third from bottom in their division and goals from Gavin Eyre, Adam Nunn (penalty), Waleed Bakali and Dave Percival ensured their miserable season continued.
Goals from Pewsey's Craig Wall and Chris Oram gave the scoreline a flattering look as the Wiltshire League team really deserved to win by more.
Manager Neil Kirkpatrick was delighted with the result.
He said: "We were brilliant tonight in every position. We certainly did not look like we were the lower league side.
"It is great to get to another final. We lost to Melksham last year but hopefully we can go on better this time against Corsham.
"This highlights our need to go up this season because we have got a team that needs to play at a higher level."
Trowbridge started brightly and on 19 minutes Eyre latched onto Dave Mitchell's through ball to slot home from just outside the area with Pewsey goalkeeper Lee Wilson stranded.
The lead was extended three minutes later when Nunn converted from the penalty spot after Eyre's run had been halted by a rash tackle from Darren Hawkins.
Trowbridge then squandered further chances before Pewsey pulled a goal back on 42 minutes through an Oram header from Tom Ritchie's free kick.
The two goal lead was restored minutes later when Nunn put Bakali clear on the goal and the left sided player rounded Wilson to slot the ball into the net.
After the break Pewsey got off to the perfect start when Wall's speculative shot deflected off Bakali to leave Adam Sheppard stranded in the Trowbridge goal.
But on 54 minutes Percival seized on a loose ball to fire past the keeper to make the score 4-2 and deflate Pewsey.
For the rest of the half Trowbridge were cruising. Andy Bloodworth went close with a 25 yard strike and Mitchell spurned a couple of good opportunities.
Colin Bush, manager of Corsham Town, their opponents in the final, was at the game and he will have gone home knowing his side will have a tough match ahead of them.
