Ref. 14914/1THE rough and tumble of skateboarding in Warminster has prompted a group of teenagers to set up their own first aid course.
A group of teenagers contacted the Warminster Youth Develop-ment Centre, in The Close, asking for help after a number of friends suffered bumps and bruises while skateboarding and rollerblading.
On Thursday seven teenagers were taught the basics of first aid in the event of an emergency and were praised for their responsible attitude by youth leaders.
Ian Withers, youth development co-ordinator at the centre, said: "They were concerned about their friends as they would be likely to be the first ones at the scene of an accident.
"There has been one or two small bumps and bruises during skateboarding and rollerblading but nothing major yet.
"They learnt the basics of treating fractures, bangs to the head and resuscitation."
Many of the teenagers use the skatepark in the Lake Pleasure Grounds in the town centre.
Warminster Youth Development Centre is hoping to buy a second- hand car for youngsters to learn basic mechanics and has recently set up help for disabled teenagers to join the club.
