CAMPAIGNERS battling for a crossing outside a Trowbridge primary school have won their fight.
But news it could take two-years for the crossing outside Newtown Primary School to be built has sparked a wave of criticism.
A report set to go before Wiltshire County Council's regulatory committee on Wednesday, will advise members to splash out cash on drawing up crossing designs over the next financial year.
But the report goes on to suggest construction of the pelican crossing will not be carried out until 2005/2006.
County councillor Jeff Osborn said the crossing was needed now, with traffic cramming past the school gates at peak hours.
"We would like it in weeks rather than years," he said.
"The school will be particularly disappointed after all the effort they have made."
