A YOUNG Trowbridge man drank himself to death an inquest heard on Wednesday. Brian Simmonds, 28, was found dead at his Newtown home in November after battling to overcome his alcoholism.
Mr Simmonds was a former pupil at the John of Gaunt School and studied at Filton College in Bristol.
His problems with alcohol led to him losing his driving licence and his job as a gas service engineer but he had tried several times to beat the problem.
Mr Simmonds was found dead in his flat by a neighbour on November 26. There were empty vodka bottles nearby and signs he had vomited blood.
A post mortem examination showed the alcohol levels in his blood were not high enough to have killed him but there was extensive damage to his internal organs.
His medical records showed he had received treatment for alcoholic hepatitis and had suffered alcohol related fits in the past.
A verdict of death by misadventure caused by chronic alcohol abuse was recorded.
