Four Swindon schools have been awarded the Primary Quality Mark, in recognition of their commitment to improving basic skills.
Ferndale Junior School, Peatmoor Community Prim-ary, Wroughton Infant and Lethbridge Primary School join 13 other Swindon schools who have already been awarded the national honour.
A further 12 schools are actively working towards the Quality Mark, which provides a framework for the continuous improvement of basic skills such as reading and writing, English oral skills and maths.
Swindon Council's edu-cation school improvement service supports schools working towards the award.
Each school is assessed by a panel of advisors, head teachers and deputies, and monitored by staff from the Basic Skills Agency.
Pat Collard, executive director of the Basic Skills Agency, will visit Swindon to present the Quality Mark plaques to the schools on Tuesday.
