AFTER a successful revamp at the start of this season, Trowbridge Odd Sods are flourishing and looking forward to exciting times.
The Odd Sods officially Trowbridge third team can pick from a larger squad than ever before as the club continues to move forward.
They will take a place in the Dorset and Wilts League Division Two next season, having only previously played friendlies, and there are now plans to introduce a fourth team.
Traditionally, the Odd Sods struggled to field a regular team but this season they have completed an almost full fixture list, being able to select from about 25 players.
They include players from the age of 17 through to 50 and offer people to chance to play rugby even if they are not up to first or second team standard.
Odd Sods' captain Lee Reed, 40, was one of the members who helped the revamp at the start of the season.
He said: "A few of us got together and decided to give it a new lease of life. We wanted to encourage either players who have retired from serious rugby, or youngsters coming up from our youth section.
"For some of these youngsters it is their first taste of senior rugby, while for the older players it is a brilliant opportunity to stay in the game.
"We have a strong side now and play against teams like Warminster firsts and Bradford seconds, so we are punching above our weight really."
"At this club we have a number of players who have more ambition than ability and through the Odd Sods they are still able to play rugby," he said.
"We are always on the look out for more members. So if there is anyone who used to play but feels they are now too old or anyone who fancies giving it a go, they should come along.
"The social side is brilliant too. The emphasis on it all is to have fun and we all do that. I think the strength of the third team shows how well the club as a whole is going."
