BARRY Coombes has urged his team-mates to produce one more big performance tomorrow as he bids to lead Trowbridge Ruby Club to their first Dorset and Wilts Vase triumph for over five years.
Trowbridge play Swindon in the final tomorrow at Devizes Rugby Club and if successful, Coombes, 22, will become one of the club's youngest captains to lift a trophy.
He said: "I can't wait for it to come. It is definitely a good thing for the club and perhaps a sign of how far we have come. I know it is not the biggest tournament in the world but we are still determined to win it.
"Swindon will be hard opposition, but I believe if we can perform like we know we can then there is no reason why we can't come away with the Vase."
Trowbridge previously won the Vase in 1989 against Melksham (Avon) at Chippenham and in 1996 against Westbury at Supermarine
After promotion from Dorset and Wilts Division One last season, Trowbridge are on course for a top-four finish in their first season in the Southern Counties League South.
They can also look forward to a Bath Combination Cup quarter-final against Chippenham.
Coombes said: "The club is definitely growing steadily. We have got a lot of players to choose from and now have three regular teams playing.
"Also all the players are under 30, in fact most are under 24, so it all looks good for the future. We still have a good 10 years of rugby in a lot of the players.
"One of the colts players, Kevin James, played for us the other day, which shows the youngsters are coming through as well."
Coombes has been at the club since he was 15 and was made captain last year at the age of 21.
He said: "The club means a lot to me and I can never see myself leaving. I am involved with a lot going on here and have seen a lot of highs and lows.
"All the way through I have been told I was potential captain material but I never expected it to happen so early. It is a big honour for me.
"We have had a good season and it would be great if we could cap it off with a bit of silverware."
"I can see a really good future, especially with the proposed ground move in a couple of years.
"Our new coach Adrian Gouldstone has obviously helped. He has transformed us from how we were playing."
