ANDY KING believes that 72 points could be enough to secure Town a coveted play-off spot.

Victory at Port Vale tomorrow night would leave his side on the 67 mark and the County Ground boss is hoping that the unpredictable nature of Division Two can work in the club's favour.

Although King has not set his troops an official points target to chase, he feels the amount needed for a top six position might be slightly less than in previous years.

Despite Town's failure to beat Barnsley at the County Ground on Saturday, results elsewhere meant they climbed to fourth in the table on 64 points.

None of the teams above Town managed a victory with Bournemouth the only serious play-off contenders behind King's side to pick up three points.

It all leaves the Town boss considering whether his initial play-off 'sums' were right.

He said: "Everyone has to play each other in the shake-up.

"All of a sudden, 72 points could be a target where I was previously thinking of 75.

"What is clear is that matters remain in our hands. If we win our games then others can't catch us."

Town's players reported for training this morning, with the 1-1 draw with Barnsley likely to be discussed before matters turn to the clash at Vale Park.

Striker Tommy Mooney was substituted at half-time, with King unapologetic for taking off the experienced forward.

The Town boss felt he had had no choice as he could not risk an already angry Mooney being red carded after the break.

A clear the air session was on the cards at Wanborough this morning.

It was a happier afternoon on Saturday for Sam Parkin, who netted his 19th goal of the season.

He is already looking forward to tomorrow night's match with Martin Foyle's men and the chance to improve Town's record against the Valiants.

Parkin said: "We haven't done particularly well against them in the last few meetings so we'll be looking to put that right.

"A win would leave us very well placed."

Andy Gurney is available again after a one-match ban with Eddie Howe also pressing for his Town debut.

Viv Busby's Town Youth enjoyed a day out on the English Riviera and fought out a 1-1 draw with Torquay United on Saturday.
