SIMPLE spelling mistakes on CVs often result in highly qualified job applicants being binned before they have a chance to shine, according to a recruitment agency.
David Baden, of DeBlank Morgan Ltd, based in Wantage, said potential employers who had a range of candidates from which to choose, would always prefer the one with the best presented curriculum vitae.
"We see quality individuals who do not have a clue how to put a good CV together and this problem goes to the top. CVs are the key to how you come across to a potential employer, but I see so many where people have not even bothered to check the spelling and this really lets them down."
Mr Baden explained that poorly constructed and badly presented profiles stopped good applicants from even giving themselves a chance of getting to the interview stage, because employers were able to pick and choose the candidates they wanted to see.
"Applicants need to give themselves the best opportunity by constructing a CV that is concise and to the point and identifies areas where they believe their strengths are," he added.
The agency is holding a free advice day next Monday aimed at helping people to improve the quality of their CVs. More information is available by calling 01235 767090.
