SWINDON Council has paid out just £410 in compensation for damage caused by the authority's roads in the last two years.
The low figure comes despite reports stating that victims of the country's crumbling road system received more than £100 million in compensation.
Council spokesman Gavin Calthrop said: "Swindon Borough Council has a robust highway inspection system in place and a very effective reporting procedure.
"This has meant that so far, for the year ending April 2004, we have received only 24 claims for compensation.
"Of these claims that have been investigated and closed we have not had to pay out any compensation.
"This compares with the period 2002/03 where the 32 claims investigated and closed then resulted in the sum total of compensation paid out being £410."
Local authorities are responsible for 95 per cent of the UK's roads.
The remainder the motorways and trunk roads are looked after by the Highways Agency.
