A SALISBURY Guide unit is facing closure because of the lack of adult supervisors.

The 16th Salisbury Guide unit, which meets at the United Reformed Church, in Fisherton Street, every Wednesday evening, is losing its assistant guide leader and unit helper.

Under guide rules, the unit must have at least three adults running it.

By the beginning of this summer, there will only be guide leader Marian Thetford left and, for the unit to continue, she must have two assistants.

Current assistant guide leader Debbie Greenwood, who is leaving Salisbury later this year, said the unit, formerly attached to St Paul's Church, branched out on its own just over 15 years ago.

She told the Journal: "There are currently 20 Guides and more are due to join at Easter.

"The unit is facing a serious problem because soon the unit helper, Sara Little, is also leaving."

The Guides themselves have appealed for someone to lend a hand.

In a letter to the Journal, the Guides said: "The 16th Salisbury Guides are going to be in trouble.

"At guides, we do lots of interesting things, which include completing badges.

"Guides are between the ages of ten and 14 and we need adult help from anyone who is over the age of 18.

"Hopefully, you would be able to be 'up' for anything and as energetic as us, because that's what we Guides specialise in.

"You would be required to lend two hours of your time a week, as well as some other time, as we sometimes do other events on weekends.

"We want you to help us so that, when we're old enough, we can help at a guide unit that your children will go to and their children can go to and so on."
