A VISION of Wootton Bassett 20 years from now as a town with its own distinct identity and a vibrant economy goes before district councillors next week.
But some believe the draft economic strategy report being discussed by North Wiltshire District Council's Cricklade and Wootton Bassett area committee, has not given enough weight to the need for stable employment in a town that is seeing redundancies by large companies.
District and town councillor Christopher Wannell (Con) said: "I am not happy with it. I think there should have been a greater emphasis on the need for jobs. We are moving a lot of people into this area. Where are they going to work? Where is the money going to come from to finance the ideas in this report?"
The plan, which is due to be considered at the meeting on April 7 at Purton Village Hall at 7pm, was produced because of the threat to Wootton Bassett's economy from possible large scale redundancies and the expansion of Swindon into the Front Garden.
The long-term future of RAF Lyneham, which currently employs 3,220 is also in doubt.
