IN THE LINE OF DUTY FEATURE: The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment has traditionally recruited many people from the Swindon area.
The regiment is in fact one of the youngest in the British Army but was formed 10 years ago from county regiments with 300 years of history and tradition.
It came into being in 1994 through the amalgamation of the Gloucestershire Regiment and the Duke of Edinburgh's Regiment which in turn was formed in 1959 when the Royal Berkshires merged with the old Wiltshire Regiment.
The regiment's record of battle honours is second to none and they still proudly wear the famous cap Back Badge which the Glosters were awarded the right to wear during the Napoleonic Wars after they bravely fought back to back at the battle of Alexandria.
Over the past few years the RGBW has also served in Northern Ireland and Bosnia and they train throughout the world.
