BASSETT produced some entertaining rugby at the expense of their Gloucestershire neighbours Cirencester.

Bassett controlled the game right from the start and pushed the visitors back into their own half with strong running, from backs and forwards alike and astute play from fly-half Pete Thornton, who varied his options well throughout the game.

The pressure quickly told as Bassett stretched the Cirencester defence and David Parker scored in the corner after good handling from all the backs.

Bassett welcomed back David Parker from Newbury for a guest appearance, alongside younger brother Nick, and he revelled in the space available, running in two tries.

Parker's second, later in the half was created from his own neat kick ahead and finished with an excellent pick up and he again dived in at the corner. Bassett threatened to run away with the game as they rattled up six scores in the first half with tries form Pete Thornton, Flo Vialan, Robin Smith and Lee Davies with the best display of running rugby that has been seen at Stoneover Lane this season. Dave Parker also converted two of them.

Cirencester raised their game in the second half and they started to disrupt Bassett's attacks.

It wasn't until late in the half that neat interplay between scrum-half, Sam Fulling and Vialan put the big Frenchman in space from an inside pass following a scrum and he outpaced the defence.

After that Thornton continued to probe Cirencester's defence and was rewarded with his second try. Fulling took over the goal kicking and was on target with two conversions.

The game finished with excellent quick handling as the ball moved through six pairs of hands for Lee Davies to score.
