Award-winning young lifesavers from Westbury will be transporting their skills to Morocco in August.

Twelve youngsters and two adults from Westbury Army Cadet Force will be supporting regular military work in the north African state.

The 28-strong group were crowned the best cadet first aiders in the south west last year and have another competition in Tilshead in June.

Two weeks ago the Wiltshire Times told how 14-year-old Westbury cadet Darryl Moore used his first aid knowledge to help save the life of choking youngster Philip Lucas. Organisers are hoping to use this publicity to increase the group's numbers and give others similar confidence.

Professional first aider 2nd Lt Rey Reeves, one of the instructors helping to put the youngsters through their paces, said: "I want more kids to be involved. It's about showing them they don't need to be worried about helping people it's just ignorance that is stopping them."

Westbury ACT meets at the cadet hut in West End, Westbury, on Mondays and Thursdays between 7-9pm.
