POLICE uncovered a stash of 40 cannabis plants at an address in Bradford on Avon on Thursday.
Officers called at an address in Baileys Barn to speak to a 25-year-old man but he was not at home.
Sgt Mark Rees said: "We went to talk to someone in relation to an inquiry and found the plants. It was quite a surprise."
The plants were seized and are being kept as evidence.
Cannabis has been reclassified as a class C drug, but cultivating it is still against the law.
Sgt Rees said: "There are no hard and fast rules with the new laws on cannabis and action we take depends on the circumstances."
