Ref. 29785-67WRVS FEATURE: Raymond Smith, 91, counts himself fortunate that he is able to leave his home occasionally.
"I get so browned off being in the flat on my own that I go out shopping or for a walk," he said. He moved to Swindon six years ago after being widowed, to be near his daughter.
But although he sees her regularly, he still finds himself spending most of his time with just his own company.
"I play music and I go for walks when it gets boring, but one day is just the same as the next." He said he understood how housebound folk felt when they found themselves becoming more isolated. "I'm hoping it never comes to that for me."
