SWINDON school teacher Nick Warren is celebrating after earning another call-up to Malta's national team.

Wing Warren, earned his first Maltese caps last year, as the side claimed the FIRA European Championship Division Three Pool B crown.

And despite increased competition for places Malta have recruited several players with Super 12 experience Down Under he has secured his spot for Division Three A clashes with Hungary (April 17), Latvia (April 24), Serbia & Montenegro (May 22) and Moldova (May 27).

Former Cirencester player Warren, who currently plays for Stroud said: "I'm over the moon really because there is a lot more competition and lots more players in the frame and the coaches don't get much chance to see me in action

"I'm looking forward to hopefully getting a few games in the championship.''

A PRELIMINARY Great Western squad for the upcoming rugby sevens season has been announced but has already suffered an injury blow.

Last year's vice-captain and ex-Wootton Bassett player Chris Baxter has suffered a season-ending injury.

Baxter, 23, broke his leg just days before the Cardiff University fly-half was due to fly out to Hong Kong to play in a 10-a-side tournament.

Meanwhile, captain Greig O'Brien is recovering from a broken ankle and should be fit.

The squad will see the return of five members that played the Army Slashers in the final of the Wootton Bassett Sevens tournament last year.
