AN ELDERLY couple from Trowbridge were confronted in their home by a conman posing as a council official.
The couple, both in their 80s, were disturbed at 1.15pm on Tuesday, when a man tried to walk in through the front door of their Langford Road home, but he was stopped by a door chain.
Producing a laminated photo-ID and telling the couple he was working for the local housing association, the man tried to lure the couple into the kitchen.
Feeling a radiator and running the taps before leaving empty-handed, the man was seen meeting up with a second man outside the property.
Both suspects walked off in the direction of Hyde Road.
The conman who entered the house is described as white, in his mid 30s, 5ft 9ins, medium build with mousy brown thinning hair. He was wearing faded jeans and a brown long-sleeved top and tan work boots.
The second male was white and smaller.
DC Jason Roberts, of Trowbridge CID, has appealed for help in tracking down the conmen.
Anyone with information should contact the town police station.
