RAF Lyneham has become the first British forces base to have its own radio station.
Called Radio Lyneham, the radio station provides news, entertain-ment and music for base personnel.
Squadron Leader Jez Nash, the officer who commands the Community Communications and Information Systems Squadron, runs the radio station.
He said: "Radio Lyneham is run by 20 volunteers who do everything from running the programmes, to research and editing.
"We needed a new way to communicate with the station and the community.
"Television was the most logical answer but we could not do that with limited resources so radio was the next step."
An eight-hour programme written by the volunteers will be run three times daily, seven days a week on 1449khz medium wave.
"We are all very excited about the radio station," explained Sqn Ldr Nash.
"This is a very fulfilling project and we have the full backing of the station commander."
