STRATTON Parish Council and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust are asking for more volunteers to help create a haven for wildlife.
Over the past year the parish council and the wildlife trust have been carrying out a scheme of improvements to Church Park, off Church Street, Stratton.
New paths have been laid, the pond desilted, and recent weeks new trees and banks of wildflowers planted. A small group of local people have agreed to meet every third Sunday of the month to create the conservation area.
The are a features a pond home to several amphibians, including the great crested newt. Old trees along the sunken lane are ideal places for birds to nest and the flowers will attract butterflies.
Neil Pullen, Swindon Wildlife Officer said: "Church Park is already a valuable amenity park, but with enough volunteers we can make it much better.
"We have been working with the community in Stratton St Margaret with generous help from the Parish Council to plan how to make the area more attractive and a valuable haven for wildlife."
