Ref. 29799-22DETECTIVES were out on the streets of Toothill last night searching for clues to help them catch a man who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.
The attack happened two weeks ago and last night a group of police officers was speaking to residents and passers-by in the hope of jogging their memories for vital evidence.
DC Corin Dennison said: "We have been down here for about an hour, canvassing people who might have been in the area when the attack happened.
"We have been making door-to-door inquiries and asking people in Folly Park whether they saw anything that evening.
"Unfortunately, it has been very quiet here tonight and it has not been as busy as we would have liked.
"But we will collate the information we have acquired and see if it furthers our investigation along."
Two detectives, three uniformed officers and two community support officers walked through the park and along nearby streets, talking to residents about the incident and their investigation.
Police are especially keen to trace a woman who was walking her dog in the park and a group of children who may have been playing football at Toothill Primary School.
The girl was said to be deeply shocked by the attack, which happened while she sat alone in the park on March 18.
She had left her home just 15 minutes before the assault between 6pm and 6.30pm.
The attacker, who ran off towards Beaulieu Close, was about 5ft 9in, thin, in his early 30s and had short, dark hair.
He was clean shaven with a mark or cut on his right cheek.
His front teeth were distinctive and he had markings, possibly a tattoo, on his hand.
There could be scratch marks on the left of his face.
He wore a dark green jumper with a sport motif on the collar and black, Army-style boots with rubber studs.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Swindon police on 01793 528111.
