TROWBRIDGE'S Dorset and Wilts Vase final triumph on Saturday sparked off jubilant scenes, but captain Barry Coombs insists the season is far from over.

With his side challenging for a fourth position finish in their first season in the Southern Counties South League and in the quarter-final of the Bath Combination Cup, Coombs is determined to finish the season on a high.

He said: "I am over the moon to win the Vase. We didn't play well in the first half but after the break we were camped in their half and they could just not break through.

"We will enjoy this but we have got plenty more to play for.

"It would great if we could finish fourth in the league and to go further in the cup so there are still some big games to play."

Coombs was appointed captain at the start of last season and after leading Trowbridge to their first Dorset and Wilts championship last campaign he was able to lift his second trophy in as many seasons on Saturday.

He said: "The last two seasons have been brilliant. Obviously to get into the Southern Counties League for the first time was very special but so was this win.

"It shows how much work everyone has put in, including the injured players. Everyone at the club has helped move it forward and we are looking stronger than we have done for years.

"A special mention must go to Dave Hanham, Henry Davis, Alex Hill and Adrian Goulstone, whose coaching has really helped this season."

Coombs also had some special words of praise for Mark Kemp, whose accurate kicking proved the difference between the two sides on the day.

He said: "Mark has been unavailable for a lot of this season due to his work commitments.

"But he has always been a great player and after a performance like that it looks as though he has been practicing his kicking."
