SALISBURY'S most famous sporting son Richard Hill brought the city's Market Square to a standstill on Thursday as hundreds of rugby fans, both young and old, turned out to welcome home the World Cup winner.
The former Bishop Wordsworth's schoolboy, who began his illustrious playing career with Salisbury RFC, happily signed autographs for his many admirers and posed alongside the Webb Ellis Trophy that he helped England win in Sydney last November.
The Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr Bobbie Chettleburgh, then held a special reception at the Guildhall in his honour where she presented him with a silver salver on behalf of the city in recognition of the part he played in England's extraordinary triumph.
