BLUEBIRDS striker Martin Paul was left scratching his head after his side's 6-1 defeat to Dorchester.
The former Bath City and Newport County player felt Chippenham had enough chances to have won the game themselves.
He said: "I'm quite astounded by it really. I think they honestly had four attacks in the first half and scored from all four. They were all down to errors on our behalf and the individuals involved held their hands up.
"It doesn't really help but Dorchester are coming off saying that's the hardest game they've had since Christmas and it's the busiest their keeper has been since Christmas.
"But we've been tanked 6-1. Someone once said it's a funny old game and it's amazing really."
Paul said the Bluebirds had hoped they could have staged a memorable second half fight back.
"The school of thought was that they are down where we are and if we could have got two goals quickly they might have got a bit shaky," he added.
"We got back to 4-1 and they did have a bit of a wobble. But we gave them two more goals on a plate and that was it."
Paul said the thing he found hardest to believe was that he had been on the end of a hatful of chances but finished on the wrong end of a hiding.
"It's phenomenal. I've had more shots and chances today than I've had in all my games combined since I got back in the team," he added.
"The goalkeeper has done tremendously well for them. Hervs only had one other save to make. All we've got to do now is try to concentrate on winning our last three games.
"We've won away to Weymouth and there's no reason why we can't go to Hednesford and win.
"If we'd have lost 6-1 and it we'd been saying it could have been ten or 12 then it would have been a different story.
"But the lads were bewildered how Dorchester have had six or seven shots and scored six."
Paul continued: "In that sense it's easier to pick ourselves up from it. I've never had that happen before in ten years so it's unlikely to happen again."
