Preparations are in full swing for this year's High Street Festival in Wootton Bassett, and this year's event will have a circus theme.

Chinese acrobats, clowns, jugglers, stilt-walkers and balloon modellers have already been booked to come and entertain the crowds. There will also be a circus skills workshop.

Wootton Bassett mayor Marion Sweet said: "We have got some tremendous events lined up already and I'm sure more will be booked before the festival. I think it s going to be an extremely exciting weekend."

Musical entertainment will come from local music shop owner Brian Taylor who will be performing on the main town stage.

The traditional market will be running, and stalls are free to local groups or small businesses.

Coun Olivia Thomas, a member of the working party for the festival said: "We have got a lot of things booked and I think there will definitely be plenty for people to see and do."

The council is also working with the Chamber of Commerce to avoid the rows over the Continental Market that marred the festival two years ago.

Although the market proved very popular, High Street traders complained that it took trade away from their usually busy days on Friday and Saturday.

Town clerk Jonathon Bourne said: "We are working closely with the chamber this year to find a solution that is acceptable to everyone.

"We are negotiating with the market and there seem to be two alternatives.

"Either the market will still come for three days, but they will be the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to avoid clashing with the shops on their busy days.

"Or the market will just come on the Sunday and will visit other local towns on the other days."

The High Street Festival takes place on August 1.
