THE Civil Aviation Authority's Air Accident Investigation Unit is looking into an incident at the Lower Upham airstrip near Ogbourne St George on Friday when a light aircraft flipped over as it landed.
Police were informed and went to the scene to discover a Luscombe two-seater aircraft upside down at the end of the grass runway.
The pilot and his passenger, both of whom came from the Swindon area, had managed to escape unhurt.
A police spokesman said the aircraft flipped over as it taxied after landing at the airstrip about 400 metres from the main SwindonMarlborough road.
The only police involvement was to pass details of the incident to the Civil Aviation Authority.
A spokesman for the CAA said: "Our air accident investigation branch is investigating an incident at Lower Upham at about 5.50pm on Friday, April 9. We can give no further information at this time.
"Once the investigation is completed a report into the incident will be published."
It's understood the pilot came from Swindon and his passenger from the Rodbourne part of the town.
An experienced local flyer who did not want to be named said landing was always difficult at Lower Upham because of swirling winds created by the hill behind the grass airstrip.
He said: "It's not the first aircraft to have done this; there have been a couple more that I know of."
