A MOBILE phone company is considering putting up a 20-metre mast in Wootton Bassett.
Vodafone is seeking the opinion of Wootton Bassett Town Council over the possibility of locating a new radio base station at the Whitehill Industrial Estate
The company's preferred option is to locate the mast at the same spot as the Orange mast on the Cotswold Design and Manufacture building on the industrial estate.
Vodfone has considered sharing Orange's mast but this would mean a bulkier structure at 22.5 metres high.
The reason for the additional mast is because the company wants to provide coverage to the railway.
Comments from the town council will be taken into account prior to submission of a planning application.
The issue will be discussed at the town council's planning committee meeting tonight in the Council Chamber, Station Road at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
